LINDSBORG — The Thomas More Prep-Marian baseball team earned a pair of lopsided victories in its season-opening doubleheader against Topeka High, sweeping the Trojans, 10-0 and 15-4, on Monday at Bethany College.
TMP pitcher Cole Zimmerman tossed a no-hitter in the five-inning opener. He notched 12 strikeouts while walking four.
The Monarchs produced 11 hits in game one, led by two hits each from Chase Werth, Eston Brown and Carson Jacobs. Brown and Brady Kreutzer each doubled.
The Monarchs easily cruised past Topeka, a Class 6A school, again in the second game, breaking it open with a seven-run fifth inning. Luke Ruder led TMP's 10-hit attack with three hits while Tate Garcia and Kreutzer had two.
Garcia earned the win on the mound, allowing two runs on three hits in four innings. Werth tossed the last three innings in relief.
