A Hays man was placed on three-year probation with underlying sentences of 48 months jail and prison time for battery and sexual battery charges.

On Tuesday, Jordan Burgess was granted the probation with Northwest Kansas Community Corrections after entering a no contest plea in March in Ellis County District Court on one charge of aggravated reckless battery and three counts of sexual battery.

He was arrested in October 2016 on suspicion of rape.

The aggravated reckless battery charge carries an underlying sentence of 36 months in prison. Each sexual battery charge carries an underlying sentence of one year in Ellis County jail, which would run concurrently, said Ellis County Attorney Tom Drees. The jail time would be consecutive to the prison sentence.

Burgess also must register as a sex offender for 15 years.
