VALLEY CENTER  — The Hays High baseball team finished the regular season by splitting a doubleheader at Valley Center on Friday. The Indians won the first game 9-7 in nine innings dropping before the nightcap 10-5. 

Hays (12-8) will host a Class 4A Division I regional on Wednesday at Indian Field. 

The first game was tied at four after eight innings before the Indians put up five runs in the top of the ninth to take control. Hunter Brown led off with a double, Willie Sennett laid down a bunt single and Palmer Hutchison drove in Brown with a double to break the tie. Tradgon McCrae and Cole Murphy each had a two-RBI singles to give the Indians needed insurance. 

Valley Center put up three runs in the bottom of the ninth but Nick Fisher was able to close out the win on the mound for the Indians.

Cole Murphy threw five innings for Hays, allowing four runs on 11 hits with a walk and two strikeouts. Fisher tossed the last four frames, giving up three runs and five hits.

Sennett and Hutchison had three hits for Hays while Brown, Cody Petersen and McCrae had two. Petersen had a two-run home run in the first inning for the Indians. 

In Game 2, Valley Center opened up a 10-2 lead after a four-run fourth. Hays' Trey Riggs gave up 10 runs (eight earned) in four innings. 

Brown and Riggs each had three hits in Game 2. 

The Indians will be the No. 3 seed in the regional and will face No. 2-seeded Buhler (13-7) at 3 p.m. on Wednesday at Indian Field. The first game will featured top-seeded McPherson (14-6) against Ulysses (5-15). The semifinal winners will meet at 5 p.m. in the final.
