The Thomas More Prep-Marian baseball team will enter next week's Class 3A state tournament in Manhattan as the No. 1 seed.
TMP (21-1) will open the tournament against Wellsville (19-4) at 3:30 p.m. Thursday at Kansas State University’s Tointon Family Stadium.
The winner will advance to the semifinals at 1:15 p.m. Saturday to face either Riley County (19-2) or Humboldt (20-3). The other side of the bracket features first-round matchups between Cherokee/Southeast (20-1) and Sabetha (20-3), and Marion/Lost Springs-Centre (21-2) vs. Cheney (20-3).
The state championship game is slated for 5:45 p.m. Friday.
The TMP softball team (18-5) earned the No. 5 seed in the 3A state tournament and will face No. 4-seeded Oskaloosa (20-3) at 7 p.m. Thursday at Twin Oaks Complex in Manhattan.
Haven is the top seed with a 22-1 record and will play 16-4 Riverton. The other matchups are Cheney (20-3) vs. Osage City (16-7), and Silver Lake (20-3) vs. Southeast-Saline (17-6).
The winners will play in the semifinals at 11 a.m. Friday with the final set for 2 p.m.
