Two Hays residents were arrested May 18 on suspicion of numerous charges stemming from an incident early that morning.

Hays police were called to the 400 block of Halladay around 2 a.m. for a reported vehicle burglary. A resident reported witnessing someone burglarize the vehicle of someone he knew, Assistant Police Chief Brian Dawson said.

The witness confronted the subject and saw there was an accomplice, then backed off when he saw something protruding from the suspect’s sweatshirt that looked like it could have been a firearm, Dawson said. The witness allegedly was battered by the suspects.

Police were called to the scene and a foot chase ensued, with Jordyn Mikhail Steinike, 21, and Uriah Javaughn Steinike taken into custody. One suspect was arrested in the 800 block of Ash and the other in the 200 block of West Eighth.

Recommended charges include aggravated intimidation of a witness, burglary, theft, battery, aggravated assault and interference with law enforcement.
