WICHITA — The Wichita Wingnuts won for the fifth straight game, stopping the Sioux Falls Canaries 6-3 Wednesday night at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium.

Down 3-1, Wichita scored three runs in the fifth and two more in the seventh.

Jordan Cooper (3-3) went six innings for Wichita, allowing two earned runs on three hits with a walk and six strikeouts. John Hayes, Brady Bowen and Mark Haynes each threw a scoreless inning with Bowen striking out three and Haynes getting the save.

Zach Nehrir went two for three hitting with two RBIs to lead Wichita. Logan Watkins went two for five with two RBIs. Leo Vargas went two for four with an RBI. Fernando Perez also drove in a run. Logan Trowbridge went two for four.

Chris Grayson went three for four hitting for Sioux Falls, driving in two runs. Patrick Fiala went two for four. Jordan Smith drove in a run.

Joe Bircher (3-4) went six innings for the Canaries, taking the loss. Bircher struck out three.

Wichita is 19-12, four games behind Sioux City in the American Association South Division. Sioux Falls is 11-19, 7 1/2 games behind St. Paul in the AA North. The Wingnuts and Canaries end their series at 7:05 p.m. today.
