Three people were arrested after a response in Russell County ended in Hays on Thursday evening.
According to a release on the Russell County Sheriff’s Office Facebook page, officers were dispatched to a rural residence near Gorham on Balta Road after a report of a gunshot wound and domestic situation.
Upon arrival, officers located Dorene Thompson, 24, and two small children in the home, and it was learned a person of interest, Ryan Thompson, had fled the scene.
After an attempt to locate was put out to surrounding agencies, the Hays Police Department located the reported vehicle — 2004 Chevrolet Tahoe — and took Ryan Thompson, 34, and Ambor Holm, 31, into custody without incident, according to the release.
A handgun was located, and further investigation, the release said, found no one had been wounded but there was a gun fired at the residence.
The Kansas Highway Patrol transported Ryan Thompson and Holm to the Russell County jail, while Dorene Thompson also was placed under arrest on Balta Road. The children were placed into protective custody.
Search warrants were executed at the home on Balta Road and on the vehicle involved, in which evidence led to arrests. This is an ongoing investigation.
