EL DORADO — The Hays Larks pushed their winning streak to eight with another win in extra innings, beating the El Dorado Broncos 9-6 in 11 innings to open a three-game series.
John Rensel Jr.'s three-run home run the top of the 11th was the difference as the Larks improved to 23-5 overall and 17-4 in the Jayhawk League to maintain their grip on first place.
The Larks led 6-5 heading to the bottom of the ninth but the Broncos forced extras with a run off a passed ball. El Dorado put the potential winning run on base in the bottom of the 10th inning but Wyatt Divis retired the next three batters to send it to the 11th.
Divis earned the win, allowing one run and a hit with four walks and six strikeouts in 3.1 innings.
Larks' starter Michael Wong gave up three runs on nine hits with six strikeouts in five innings on the mound.
Rensel and Clayton Rasbeary each had two hits for the Larks, who will play the second game of the series with the Broncos at 7 p.m. on Saturday.
