Hays Public Library, 1205 Main, is conducting a back-to-school “Community Threads” clothing drive through Tuesday, July 31.

Katie Meitner, who is coordinating the drive, said that on Aug. 11, children and adults can come to the library to pick out clothes, shoes and coats.

The free distribution will take place from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Schmidt Gallery.

“It’s come and go. People can come and take what they need,” Meitner said.

The library is collecting clean, “gently used” clothing for all ages, hats, coats, gloves, shoes, robes, and jewelry. It does not want undergarments, broken jewelry, soiled or damaged items, or household goods.

“We really need children’s clothing, all sizes and for all body types,” Meitner said.

This is the second year the library has conducted the clothing drive. Meitner said last year about 100 people participated in the distribution. “It’s something we want to continue, provided we can get the donations,” she said.
