A Hays man pled not guilty this week to charges of sodomy and rape of two 13-year-old girls in November.

Andrew Bayle Claude, 20, entered his plea Tuesday in Ellis County District Court to three counts of aggravated criminal sodomy of a child under the age of 14 and two counts of rape of a child under the age of 14.

The crimes are alleged to have happened Nov. 17 and 18, after Claude met the two girls at Big Creek Crossing. The witnesses, now each 14, gave different accounts of what happened in June’s preliminary hearing. One girl testified Claude performed sexual acts with the girls at the movie theater and later at Claude’s home. The other witness said the three only hung out as friends, denying any sexual activity occurred.

At the conclusion of the preliminary hearing, the judge ordered the second witness be charged with perjury.

Claude’s trial date is pending.
