SABETHA — With their spot in the Class AA State Legion Baseball Tournament semifinals already secured, the Hays Sr. Monarchs dropped a 6-3 decision to Marysville in the final game of pool play on Friday night. 

The Monarchs will play Iola at 10 a.m. on Saturday in the semis. 

Hays grabbed a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first on a two-run single by Cole Zimmerman. Marysville got on the board with a run in the top of the second before adding three runs in the third to take 4-2 lead. 

Marysville tacked on runs in the fifth and seventh innings to take a four-run cushion into the bottom of the seventh. 

The Monarchs got a run in the final frame off a sacrifice fly from Adam Gottschalk. They had the bases loaded with one out before back-to-back strikeouts ended the game. 

Carlos Schwindt went five innings on the mound for the Monarchs, allowing five runs, only one of which was earned. Luke Ruder tossed the last two innings. 

Marysville, which finished pool play 3-0, will play Silver Lake at noon in the other semifinal. The championship game will be played later Saturday.
