William “Bill” or “Bo” Bobek, 96, Plainville, died Monday, Aug. 27,2018 at his home. He was born Jan. 30,1922, in Breezyhill, to Louis and Paulene (Goveshek) Bobek.
After living through the Great Depression and working at a CCC camp in Utah, he was U.S. Navy from Dec. 10, 1942 to Dec. 30, 1945. He served during World War II and crossed the Equator three times during his tour of service. He married Tina Hamel, on Sept. 10, 1960 in Plainville. He spent most of his working life as a tank setter in the oilfield. They purchased B&M Recreation in 1977. It later became known as Tina’s Recreation, a place remembered by many. He enjoyed spending his later years with family, friends, and their three puppies, Sophie, Toby, and Lucy.
Survivors include his wife, of the home; daughter, Kayla Hamblet and husband Rocky; sons, Kris Bobek and wife Stacey, and Kevin Bobek and wife Shari; seven grandchildren, Lindsey Hamblet, Lacey Sweeney, and husband Kenney, Landon Hamblet, Samantha Bobek, Colton Bobek, Dalton Bobek, and Simone Bobek; and two great-grandchildren, Tripp and Twynn Tetuan.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Rudy and Louie (Bill’s twin); and three sisters, Madeline, Christina, and Helen.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Plainville; burial in the Sacred Heart Cemetery.
Visitation will be until 8 pm Wednesday, family will receive friends from 6 to 8 pm at Plumer-Overlease Funeral Home, Plainville.
A vigil/rosary will be at 7 pm at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to “Crossroads Guild” (Who make quilts for veterans of Rooks County) or “St. Thomas Quilters” of Stockton, in care of funeral home.
