GREAT BEND — The Hays High Indians dropped a hard-fought battle at Great Bend, falling 15-7 to the Panthers on Friday.

Hays drove to the Panthers’ 27 in the closing seconds but Palmer Hutchison’s pass fell incomplete in the end zone as time expired.

The Indians (0-2) took a 7-6 lead into halftime after a 49-yard touchdown pass to Mason Ibarra from Hutchison in the second quarter. The Panthers regained the lead on a 46-yard touchdown run by Dalton Miller in the third quarter and tacked on a field goal in the fourth.

Hutchison went 11 of 31 through the air for 133 yards with a touchdown and two interceptions. Ibarra had three receptions for 82 yards while Hayden Brown rushed for 56 yards. 

Hays High will play host to Liberal next Friday at Lewis Field Stadium.
