PLAINVILLE — The Plainville Cardinals scored the first 24 points and never looked back in a 46-6 rout of Thomas More Prep-Marian on Friday night.

The Cardinals struck first with a 30-yard field goal and Jordan Finnesy threw two touchdowns in the first quarter to open up a 17-0 lead by the end of the first frame. Finnesy hit Kobe Spiess for a 37-yard score and then found Copeland for a 19-yard TD.

Jared Casey extended the lead to 24-0 early in the second with a 1-yard plunge.

TMP, which dropped to 1-2 both overall and in the Mid-Continent League, scored its lone touchdown on a 37-yard fumble return by Ryan Richmeier with 3:46 left in the second quarter.

Finessy and Spiess connected again for a 19-yard TD late with 44 seconds left in the half to make it 32-6 at halftime. The Monarchs were plagued by four turnovers in the first half.

Casey tacked on touchdown runs of 4 and 26 yards in the third quarter.

Plainville outgained the Monarchs 369-95. Finessy went 10 of 13 through the air for 123 yards with three touchdowns. Casey had 124 yards on 21 carries with three scores while Finnesy added 98 rushing yards on 14 carries.

TMP’s Kaleb Hagans ran for 51 yards on 14 attempts.

Plainville (2-1, 2-1 MCL) will play host to Smith Center next Friday while Thomas More Prep-Marian will face Hoisington at Lewis Field Stadium.
