LAWRENCE — The Fort Hays State men's cross country team completed the Rim Rock Farm Collegiate Classic on Saturday (Sept. 29) with a strong fifth-place finish. The Tigers ranked second among Division II teams, just one team point behind Nebraska-Kearney. However, Fort Hays State's second through fifth-best finishers on the team placed higher than UNK's same grouping of runners. The difference was a third-place overall finish by UNK's Corbin Hansen.

The Tigers compiled 128 team points in the race. Host-school Kansas claimed the team title with 34 points. Kansas was the only school to finish with less than 100 team points.

Israel Barco finished 17th in the field, crossing the finish line in 25:20.4, shedding nearly 32 seconds off for his new personal-best. Robbie Schmidt navigated the course in 25:33.6, finishing 25th overall and fourth among Division II competition. Schmidt set a personal-record in the eight-kilometer race after shaving off 28.5 seconds from his previous-best time.
