PHILLIPSBURG — Trego Community's Helen Giefer and Wyndom Giefer swept the varsity races in the Mid-Continent League cross country meet on Thursday at the Phillipsburg Rodeo Grounds. 

Helen Giefer cruised in the girls race, winning in 18:41.59 while Norton Community's Lexi Kats was second in 19:51.95. 

Trego's Sybil Giefer (21.26.46), Plainville's Aubree Dewey (21.38.54) and Oakley's Danielle Allison rounded out the top five.

In the boys race, Wyndom Giefer won in 16:58.41, edging Norton's Connor Hall's 17:03.01. 

Norton's Connor Ricky King took third (17:08.82) while Ellis' Samuel Ellis (18:10.94) and Norton's Kolton Field (18:22.06) were fourth and fifth, respectively. 

The Thomas More Prep-Marian girls had five top-15 finishes, led by Kyleigh Allen's seventh-place finish 22:00.53. Julia Werth was ninth (22:01.04), Abby Rueschhoff was 10th (22:22.45), Adell Riedel was 12th (22:27.56) and Emily Schippers placed 15th (22:41). 

On the boys side, TMP was led by Jared Myers' seventh-place finish in 18:34.
