Delano Dean “Doc” Schwindt, 85, died Sunday, Oct. 7, 2018, at Grisell Memorial Hospital, Ransom.

He was born Sept. 2, 1933, near Utica, to Benjamin and Ella (Foos) Schwindt.

He graduated from eighth grade in a country school in Trego County that was situated on the family farm and then attended Utica High School for a couple of years until he went to work full time on the family farm. Doc was a hard worker and good provider for his family. He never met a stranger; everyone was his friend. Doc loved to hunt and fish. He was well known for his “dead eye” shooting and his trick shots. He enjoyed fishing, but his passion was hunting: deer, coons, coyotes, pheasants, or anything that moved, crawled, jumped or flew.

He married Amelia Rohr on Aug. 27, 1952, in Park. They made their home on the family farm near Utica where they raised their five children. He also hauled water for the oil field. In 1985 Doc and Millie moved to Colby to operate the Country Club Motel. They returned to Utica in 1991. He then played a vital role in Aeroswint, the family business, as well as helping work on the family farm.

He is survived by his wife; two sons, Bobbie Schwindt (Donna), Colby and Rick Schwindt (Mary), Utica; and two daughters, Marilyn Johnson (Billy), Utica, and Carolyn Folkenroth (Joe), Clinton, Ark.; one brother, Lyle Schwindt (Deana), Cheyenne Wells, Colo.; 13 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Randy Schwindt; two brothers, Lawrence and Ben Schwindt; and one sister, Mildred Brau.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the First Christian Church, Utica, followed by burial in the Utica Cemetery. Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Fitzgerald Funeral Home, Ness City, with the family present from 6 to 8 pm.

Memorials are suggested to the Utica Rural Fire Department.
