GYPSUM — The Thomas More Prep-Marian girls’ cross country team will send its squad to the Class 3A state meet at Rim Rock. It came by the narrowest of margins. The Monarchs took third place Saturday in the Southeast of Saline regional as the Monarchs edged fourth-place Norton by one point. TMP, led by an 11th-place showing for Grace Pope, finished with 93 points. Kyleigh Allen finished 16th, while Adell Riedel was 23rd and Abby Reuschoff and Julia Werth 25th and 26th, respectively. Emily Schippers finished 28th for TMP, while Kiara Urban was 33rd.

Norton, which just missed the team cut, got a second-place showing from Lexi Kats, who covered the course in 19 minutes, 26.45 seconds. Teammate Hannah Bailey was eighth in 20:59.02. The Bluejays’ next best finish came at 20th from Catherine Hall, while the fourth runner was Dianna Snow in 34th. Kailey Gill was 38th for the Bluejays.

The TMP boys were 11th out of 11 teams in the field, paced by a 23rd-place showing for Jared Mayers.

Norton captured second place in the boys’ field, scoring 81 points, compared to host Southeast of Saline’s 49.

Norton’s Connor Hall (16:59.60) and Ricky King (17:01.15) were second and third, respectively.
