A man charged in burglaries, thefts and property damage at several Hays locations in March entered a plea Wednesday with a recommended sentence of probation.

According to documents filed in Ellis County District Court, Reydesel Garcia, 32, was arrested and charged Sept. 12 with three felony counts of non-residential burglary, one count of misdemeanor theft, one count of felony theft, three counts of misdemeanor criminal damage to property and one felony count of attempted non-residential burglary for incidents between March 18 to 25.

In the plea agreement, Garcia pleaded guilty to one felony charge of non-residential burglary and misdemeanor criminal damage to property at Hays Car and Truck Alignment, 701 E. Eighth on March 16, and a felony theft charge for taking a safe worth $622 and almost $7,500 in cash from Dollar General, 1208 E. 27th, on March 18.

Garcia will owe restitution yet to be determined to four victims of the original charges.

The charges dismissed are:

• misdemeanor theft of an electric impact driver, charger and battery valued at $420 on March 16.

• two felony counts of non-residential burglary on March 18 at Dollar General and Cerv’s on March 25

• a felony charge of attempted non-residential burglary March 21 at Casey’s General Store, 1301 Canterbury

• two misdemeanor charges of criminal damage to property at Casey’s and Cerv’s.

Recommended sentencing in the plea agreement is 18 months probation supervised by Northwest Kansas Community Corrections, with an underlying sentence of 22 months total in prison for the felonies and an additional six months for the misdemeanor to be served concurrently.
