Hays Community Theater will present an evening of live piano karaoke with a Hays native making a name for herself in the New York music and theater scene.

“Home for the Holidays” will present musical theater, pop/rock and holiday hits with Sarah Glassman and vocalist Ryan Hiers from 7 to 10 p.m. Tuesday at HCC’s theater, 121 E. Eighth. There is a $5 cover charge, which Glassman will donate to HCC. Food and drinks will be available for a donation.

Glassman started playing piano at age 3 and at 12 was a music minister and accompanist in church. She studied classical and theater music at Fort Hays State University and performed along with her mother, Cheryl, in HCC productions.

In 2006, she moved to New York City and quickly began directing cabaret shows and accompanied theatrical auditions and musical productions in the region. She works as a piano instructor and vocal coach and plays at one of New York’s top piano bars, Uncle Charlie’s — where, in August, Neil Sedaka complimented her on her performance and asked to play a few of his hits.

In 2017, she was the winner of the Josephine Foundation Excellence in the Arts Award for Music Director of the Year for a production of “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamboat.”

She is about to release a Christmas single, “Christmas Eve in My Hometown,” which she will debut Tuesday night.
