Police looking for suspects in an armed robbery in Gorham today were at Hays High School around 2 p.m. to talk to students who might have

information.

The police presence prompted what Superintendent John Thiessen described as a soft lockdown, in which students weren't being allowed to leave until police finished their investigation.

An alert on Broadcastify, which broadcasts live public safety feeds, said a suspect vehicle in the Gorham armed robbery had been located at

Hays High. Hays Middle School also had been placed on brief lockdown earlier.

At no time were there any threats to students or the high school, said Thiessen. The lock down was intended to help police finish speaking with students who might have information before school let out for the day, he said.

"We're just working with police to try and gather information," said Thiessen, who was assisting the police, including Hays Police Chief Don Scheibler, who was also at the high school. No students were being taken into custody, Scheibler said.

More than a dozen law enforcement officers in marked and unmarked cruisers, SUVs and pick ups descended on the parking lot at Defiance Brewery, 2050 Old Highway 40, Hays, in advance of going to Burgundy Lane in the Sunset trailer park next door. Scanner chatter indicated they took one person into custody at that location around 3:15 p.m., and another minutes later. No other information is available at this time.
