Putting together a big third quarter, the Thomas More Prep-Marian girls’ basketball team grabbed a huge win Friday night against visiting Abilene at Al Billinger Fieldhouse.

Outscoring the Cowgirls 19-7 out of the halftime locker room, the Monarchs grabbed a 44-35 victory against a solid Abilene club that entered the night 10-1.

Adell Riedel hit two third-quarter 3-pointers as she finished with seven points, while Emily Schippers led TMP with 16 points, doing her damage in the first quarter. Jillian Lowe and Emilee Lane each added nine points with Lowe adding to the big third quarter with a 3 of her own.

TMP moved to 9-4, outscoring Abilene 31-20 in the second half.

The Monarchs will head to Smith Center on Monday for a makeup game. Action is slated to begin at 6 p.m.

Abilene boys 62, TMP-Marian 45

A big second quarter was all the visiting Cowboys needed to grab a 62-45 victory, dropping the host Monarchs to 8-6. Abilene, outscoring the Monarchs 25-12 in the second, pushed its record to 9-3 with a balanced effort that saw 11 players enter the books.

TMP was led by Ryan Karlin’s 14 points, while Jackson Schulte added 12. The Cowboys outscored TMP 15-6 in the third quarter, and led the entire way.
