ELLIS — The first of three candidate for the Ellis USD 388 superintendent will interview with the school board Monday evening, according to a release from the district.

Steven E. Pegram has been superintendent at Santa Fe Trail USD 434 for 11 years. The district has an enrollment of 1,100, with about 300 at Santa Fe Trail High School, a 3A school.

Pegram previously was superintendent at Silver Lake USD 372 for seven years and Cherryvale USD 447 for five years. In that district, he was also high school principal for three years and an elementary principal for one year.

Tours of the USD 388 facilities and the community will begin at noon, with a meet and greet for the public and district staff from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. in the Ellis School lobby. A dinner for the candidate and board of education will be at Arthur’s at 5:30 p.m.

The formal interview will be in an executive session scheduled for 6:30 p.m. in the high school library.

On Wednesday, Ellis High School principal Corey Burton will interview for the position. Burton, who recently returned from Kansas City for treatment of acute myeloid leukemia, will offer a video presentation for the public and staff that will be shared online and through email at 3:30 p.m. rather than a meet and greet.

The final candidate, whose name will be released Thursday morning, will be interviewed that evening, and will also have a 3:30 p.m. meet and greet for the public and district staff that day.
