A Hays man will serve three years in prison for having sexual images of children on his computer.
Michael John Nelson was sentenced Monday afternoon in Ellis County District Court to 36 months for one count of sexual exploitation of child, the standard sentence according to state guidelines. Two underlying charges of sexual exploitation of child each carry a sentence of 32 months, with all sentences to be served concurrently.
Originally charged with 10 counts of sexual exploitation of child, Nelson agreed to a plea bargain in December that agreed to no probation. The state also agreed to not pursue further prosecution for the remainder of approximately 3,259 images found on computer.
Nelson also will be required to lifetime registration as a sexual offender.
