The Hays Arts Council will have opening receptions Friday for the newest exhibits at the Hays Arts Center, 112 E. 11th.

Opening Friday and running through March 30 are “Intermittent Musing,” glass and mixed media by Stan Detrixhe, “Unwrapping Life,” mixed media by Terri Horner, and “Dance Photography” by Mike Strong.

The opening reception will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the arts center.

The HAC is also taking entries for the 50th annual Smoky Hill Art Competition and Exhibition. The juried fine arts competition is open to all Kansas artists in two- and three-dimensional art, with a total of $3,000 in cash awards.

Entry deadline is March 7, with the exhibition opening at Spring Art Walk on April 26. Entry information can be found at www.haysartscouncil.org.

This year’s juror is Michael D. Michaelis, president and CEO at Emprise Financial Corp. and curator of the Emprise Art Collection — 3,000 works regarded as the largest Kansas art collection in the world.

He has received the Americans for the Arts prestigious Business Top 10 Award, the Kansas Governor’s Arts Award and has served on the boards of numerous art museums and organizations throughout the state. Works from his collection have been on loan to the Museum of Modern Art and the U.S. State Department’s “Art in Embassies” program.
