Hays Arts Council will cap its annual meeting with concert

The Hays Arts Council will have a concert Oct. 25 after its annual meeting at Fox Pavilion.
Jimmy Dee & the Fabulous Destinations will headline the two-hour event beginning at 7:30 p.m. in a performance open to the public. General seating starts at 7:10 p.m.
"Anyone who wants to join us for this wonderful concert and dance can," said Brenda Meder, HAC executive director. "People can just sit and listen, but the dance floor will be open. People who want to get up there and have some fun dancing to Jimmy Dee, we want them to get up there and dance."
The band's early rock 'n' roll sound includes hits from the Righteous Brothers, Beach Boys, Buddy Holly, Elvis and others, Meder said. There also will be a cash bar.
The community event reflects the organization's deep ties to the surrounding area. Aside from its seasonal downtown art walks, the HAC hosts two large competitions, exhibits throughout the year and programs for children.
It offers a variety of summer art classes for students and an artist outreach program, which sends artists to 12 elementary schools in Hays, Ellis, Victoria, Plainville and Russell during a week to put on educational performances. Each spring, Ellis County fifth-graders participate in the group's annual Famous Figures program and put on a theatrical presentation in which they portray a historical icon.
Tickets for the Oct. 25 concert can be purchased for $15 at the HAC, 112 E. 11th; the Mix Shop at Eighth Street Liquor, 235 W. Eighth; or at the door.
