City to vote on Bike Hays plan

The Hays City Commission will meet 6:30 p.m. Thursday at city hall and vote on finalizing the Bike Hays system.
The Kansas Department of Transportation needs city leaders to approve the plan to build on-street lanes and a multipurpose trail on the levee. The state agency has promised to pay 60 percent of construction costs and oversee the project. The city is responsible for $393,200 of construction and inspection costs.
In other business:
* City staff has recommended the commission renew Mayer Specialty Service LLC's contract to clean and video 19 miles of the city's sewer lines. The contractor, who performed the service in 2013, would be paid up to $120,000.
* Commissioners will vote on approving a taxi license application for Yadday Enterprises LLC dba Convenience Cab.
* Two groups are requesting a cereal malt beverage license for their special events. Al's Chickenette filed paperwork stated its program is Sunday, and DHDC staff wants to serve the beverages July 18 to 19. * The commission will vote on appointments to various boards. Michael Billinger and Olga Detrixhe will be considered for the CARE Council, Sue Rouse for the Hays Housing Authority Board, Katherine Wolfe for the Hays Public Library Board and Ang Robson for the Sister Cities Advisory Board.
