HPD will step up DUI enforcement
The Hays Police Department will again partner with the Kansas Traffic Safety Resource Office in an increased effort to combat impaired driving. Officers will be participating in the "You Drink. You Drive. You Lose." campaign through Labor Day, Sept. 2.
During this period, officers will be specifically assigned to detect impaired drivers through the enforcement of traffic regulations including violations such as speeding, traffic signal violations and seat-belt use. Officers throughout Kansas will participate in this program, which is part of a grant-funded operation underwritten by the Kansas Department of Transportation. Their mission is to improve the quality of life for the traveling public by reducing the number of motor vehicle fatalities, injuries and crashes.
The Hays Police Department would like to remind everyone if you are going to consume alcohol as you celebrate the Labor Day weekend, have someone be your designated driver. Safe Ride will also be available from 10 p.m. to 3 a.m. Wednesday to Saturday to help people get home safely by calling (785) 621-2580.
