District launches capital campaign for project
ELLIS -- Ellis High School and the USD 388 Education Foundation are conducting a capital fundraising campaign, Raise the Bar, to support the new wrestling and weight facility.
The district is spending approximately $325,000 of capital outlay money on the project.
"A lot of the equipment down there (in the old weight room) is 20 years plus old -- pretty worn out," said Corey Burton, EHS principal.
Rather than bring old equipment to the new facility, a group of teachers and community members is raising money for the equipment and upgrades for the facility.
The equipment list includes Pro-Series single sided racks, Pro-Series adjusting benches, Performance Series benches, uni-lateral leg press, eight stack jungle, leg curl/leg extension combo, glute/hamstring developers, neck machine, York VTX grip plates, bumper plates and bars.
Donations also will go toward putting in a rubberized floor and a 12-foot strip of turf near the middle of the weight room.
Fundraising started in December with a goal of $80,000. The number changes almost daily, but group has raised more than $55,000.
