The rules for changing political party affiliation in Kansas are changing Tuesday, Ellis County Clerk Donna Maskus said.

A Democratic, Republican or Libertarian affiliated voter can not change party affiliation from July 1 to Aug. 31. Applications postmarked June 30 will be accepted, and electronic submissions by fax, email or online will be accepted if submitted before midnight June 30.

An unaffiliated voter can affiliate with a party after July 1 but can't change back to unaffiliated until Sept. 1.

A new registrant not transferring from another county can declare a party affiliation by the deadline for new registrations, which is July 15.

Registered voters also still can change other information by the July 15 deadline.

All registered voters again can change party affiliation with no restrictions from Sept. 1 to June 1, 2016.
