A full-service recycling facility in Hays is expected to open in 2015.

The proposed F&F Recycling of Hays business will be reviewed at 8:15 a.m. Sept. 10 in city hall during the Hays Area Board of Zoning Appeals' meeting. The company would be located at 13th and General Custer.

Kiel Fahrenbruch, general manager for Norton-based F&F Iron & Metal Co., said the facility will buy ferrous and non-ferrous metal from customers. The materials can include stainless steel, tin, appliances, copper and aluminum. F&F would sell the goods to mills or similar companies.

Fahrenbruch expects to serve commercial, government and private customers.

"We view Hays as a growing community, and along with that growth, we believe recyclables will be more available," Fahrenbruch said. "We just think there's an opportunity to offer a full-service recycling center to responsibly purchase the material and help the community."

The company is deeply-rooted in the industry and also has a site in Garden City.

"We started the yard in Norton 30 years ago, so we have over 30 years of experience in the recycling business," he said. "We utilize the latest technologies for the transactions, and we offer cash or check payments."

The site will not take trash, but there is a possibility cardboard and mixed paper will be accepted.
