Two downtown Hays businesses want to pamper a woman regarded for her selfless, positive attitude and strength.

They’re calling it the “shero” award.

Simply Charmed, a women’s fashion store at 1011 Main, and Salon Ten O Seven, a beauty salon, spa and boutique at 1007 Main, are giving away a combined $500 mini-makeover package for a female hero, hence the “shero” name. Friends and family can write an essay nominating any Kansas woman they consider inspiring, said Sarah Cearley, owner of Simply Charmed.

“We can’t wait to hear the stories about these special women touching lives,” said Erica Argo, manager of Salon Ten O Seven. “Many times, special women have the ability to push through hardships and adversities and give back to others.”

“It’s about recognizing a woman who has impacted you, who has inspired you and motivated you to accomplish more than you initially imagined, who has given you confidence and encouraged you to go beyond the standard,” Cearley said.

She interacts with women everyday in her role as a retailer.

“I’m just excited to see all the neat stories and all the history, what women are doing behind the scenes that they’re very modest, and they don’t go around shouting out to everybody,” she said.

April 29 is the deadline to submit an essay. Entries can be entered on Simply Charmed’s Facebook page under the essay contest tab, emailed to sales@shopsimplycharmed.com, mailed to the shop or hand-delivered.

The winner will be invited to attend the Spring Fling: Spring Style Show on May 3 in the Fox Pavilion, 1202 Main. The program, which runs from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., features the newest offerings from Simply Charmed, Bella Luna, The Paisley Pear and its cafe and Couture for Men and Women.
