Nationally acclaimed contemporary Christian singer/songwriter Aaron Shust will be in concert in Hays on March 28 as part of his "Morning Rises" tour.
"We're really excited about being able to have him here in town," said Dave Kumer, station manager for KPRD Radio (88.9 FM) in Hays, which is promoting Shust's appearance. "Just excited to see what God is going to do through his music."
Shust, 38, earned the Gospel Music Association's Songwriter of the Year and New Artist Dove Award in 2007. His song, "My Savior, My God," was named Song of the Year. His latest album, "Morning Rises," is his fifth.
"One of the themes that's pervasive throughout the album is that the sun will rise," Shust said Wednesday in a telephone interview from his home in Pittsburgh.
The stop in Hays is one of more than 20 spring concert dates for Shust. Joining him on stage at Beach/Schmidt Performing Arts Center as special guests will be pop-rockers MIKESCHAIR, acoustic-pop songwriter Jonny Diaz and newcomer Lauren Daigle.
"I want it to be enjoyable, musically," Shust said of his concerts. "I want there to be an opportunity for worship. That's something that's just on my heart.
"I'll tell some stories, share from my heart. I also want to share the word of God."
Shust's next project is a Christmas album.
"It's the exact Christmas record I always wanted to make," Shust said. "It's just a big, epic, beautiful Christmas record that comes out this year that I'm super excited about."
Kumer is elated to land a nationally-known artist for a concert.
"We're really excited to see what God is going to do with him that night," Kumer said. "Very fortunate to have somebody like Aaron Shust here."
Individual tickets purchased in advance are $15, or $12 for groups of 10 or more. Tickets purchased the day of the concert are $17. Tickets can be purchased at the KPRD studio, 205 E. Seventh, Suite 218; online at kprd.org or by calling (855) 889-5773.
