SkyWest Airlines will start service at Hays Regional Airport in time for travelers to book late-summer vacations.
Starting Aug. 1, the carrier will offer 12 weekly flights from Hays to Denver on 50-passenger jets. Operating through United Express, customers can use and build up frequent flier miles with United's MileagePlus loyalty program.
An Aug. 1 flight to Denver returning Aug. 4 costs $193.50 as of Monday, according to the carrier's website.
I.D. Creech, Hays director of public works, said city staff is pleased with the announcement and believes it enables better travel around the region and world. The flight schedule also provides options for passengers.
"The flight times -- an early morning departure, mid-day turnaround and evening return -- create many flight connection options for our flyers, and we are excited that we will have reliable commercial air service at the Hays Regional Airport," Creech said.
Mike Thompson, SkyWest vice president of market development, said in a release the partnership offers Hays opportunities.
"Having access to reliable, local air service is critical for the economic development of communities, and we look forward to the start of these new United Express flights in Hays," Thompson said.
