Ellis County OKs new district for dealership
By MATTHEW KENWRIGHT
The Ellis County Commission approved a community improvement district Thursday for a proposed heavy duty truck dealership near the intersection of 230th and 55th.
Christopher Sook, the attorney representing BBJ LLC, said, "This is a 2-percent sales tax applicable only to the 5-acre tract of ground where the proposed dealership and service center is going to be located."
The funds will help the site develop its infrastructure, said Brent C. Doonan, vice president of Doonan Peterbilt. The building is projected to be completed by September.
Commission Chairwoman Barbara K. Wasinger said the measure fulfills the purpose of the CID.
"I think this is exactly what the community improvement district is set up for, to help businesses with their infrastructure," Wasinger said. "And since it does only affect you, I think that's it even more so a good financial tool,"
Commissioner Swede Holmgren participated in the discussion and vote via telephone.
