USD 489 offering summer lunch program
Area children ages 2 to 18 can participate in the Hays USD 489 summer food service program hosted at Washington Elementary School.
The program runs from May 27 to July 9.
Breakfast is served from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m., and lunch from 11:30 a.m. to 1:15 p.m.
There are no income requirements. It is a free service offering a nutritious breakfast or lunch during the summer. The cost of children's meals is reimbursed by federal funds.
No enrollment is required, but large groups such as camps or day care are asked to provide advanced notice to help staff prepare.
There is a small price -- $2.10 for breakfast and $3.40 for lunch -- for adults. Adults are not required to stay and eat.
Approximately 2,000 breakfasts and 5,000 lunches were served to students and adults during last summer's program.
Menus and information about the program are available at USD 489 schools and on the district's website. For more information, contact Jessica Calhoun, director of nutrition services, by email at firstname.lastname@example.org or call (785) 623-2400, Ext. 115.
