Hays to become ineligible for USDA housing programs
TOPEKA -- Barring Congressional action, implementation of the 2010 Census data is scheduled to take effect Oct. 1. The data will modify some of the eligible areas for USDA Rural Development Housing programs.
In Kansas, the following six communities will become ineligible areas for both USDA Guaranteed Rural Housing loans and direct loans: Andover, Gardner, Hays, Junction City, Liberal and Pittsburg (including Frontenac).
In addition to the new six ineligible communities, the current Wichita ineligible area will be expanded east to join the Andover ineligible area. As of today, the USDA Eligibility website also shows Ottawa as an ineligible community. This is incorrect and soon will be changed to show Ottawa as eligible. To view the new eligibility maps go to eligibility.sc.egov.usda.gov and select "Future Eligible Areas" on the left menu.
