Western history author and lecturer Jeff Barnes returns to Hays to give a presentation for his new book, "Buffalo Bill's Kansas."
Barnes will give his presentation at 7 p.m. Monday at the Ellis County Historical Society museum, 100 W. Seventh. The event is free.
A former newspaper reporter and editor, Barnes lives and writes in Omaha, Neb. He was in Hays in July to give a lecture on his second book, "The Great Plains Guide to Custer."
Barnes' new book is on Cody's formative years.
"William F. Cody was born in Iowa, but Buffalo Bill was born in Kansas," Barnes said in a news release. "It was here that he went from a small boy to a legend, where he grew up and started a family, but also where he met several influential and historical characters and created a name for himself."
Barnes also is the author of the newly published "The Great Plains Guide to Buffalo Bill." His first book was "Forts of the Northern Plains."
