Feeling 'comfortable'

Avery Burns is leaving her options open, if only a bit.

Avery Burns is leaving her options open, if only a bit.

The Fort Hays State University incoming junior currently is majoring in mathematics.

She knows where that will lead, dealing with numbers, but she's not sure if it will be in the classroom as a teacher or back home in Cimarron working with her father in the community's bank.

Burns is a transfer from Seward County Community College and delights in FHSU.

"I really like it here because it isn't so big and everyone's really friendly," she said.

That's important to Burns, who comes from a small high school and didn't relish the idea of attending a big school.

She's sure to recommend FHSU, but said it's important for students to pick a school they're comfortable with.

"Make sure you go somewhere where you feel at home," Burns said. "Make sure you feel comfortable and feel at home."
