Rankin voted new BOE member
By The Hays Daily News
In a 5-1 vote Monday night, the Hays USD 489 Board of Education selected Sarah Rankin as its newest member.
Rankin was one of seven candidates the board interviewed during Monday night's regularly scheduled meeting in Hays.
Rankin took her seat immediately at Monday night's meeting, filling the void left by former member Darren Schumacher — who left the position due to relocation for his job.
The other six candidates at Monday night's meeting included Paul Adams, Jerold Braun, Miranda Fox, Patrick Scott, Kris Munsch and Luke Oborny.
The board also approved two resolutions on a vote of 6-0 each to non-renew 16 tenured and non-tenured teachers’ contracts for the 2014-15 school year as a cost cutting measure.
The district is expecting to have to make up a $1.3 million shortfall, and the staff cuts are expected to save $973,000.
