A handful of restaurants are looking at opening a business in the building at 4107 Vine, where Carlos O'Kelly's Mexican Cafe was located. That restaurant closed in March.

"We've got about four restaurants looking for locations in Hays," said Aaron White, executive director for the Ellis County Coalition for Economic Development.

White said he passed along the prospective restaurant representatives to Michael Downing, owner of the local RE/MAX real estate franchise.

"We've had interest from two franchises and one individual, privately-owned restaurant company," Downing said. "We're getting good action on it. We're hoping to get that back open and get another restaurant in town."

White said the former Carlos O'Kelly's location isn't the only one drawing attention.

"I will say they are looking at other sites in the community as well," White said. "There are definitely multiple possibilities."
