Group approves aerial permit
By MATTHEW KENWRIGHT
The Ellis County Joint Planning commission met Wednesday and approved a conditional-use permit for an aerial application business near Mount Pleasant and 390th Avenue.
The Ellis County Commission will have final approval on the project. Danny and Bobbie Dinkel, co-owners of High Plains Aerial LLC, presented their vision.
The business would apply insecticide, herbicide, fungicide and fertilizer on crops and pastures. Construction plans include a grass-strip runway, a 2,000-gallon fuel tank with containment, a 3,000-gallon water tank and a covered containment pad. Water would be bought from Post Rock Rural Water District.
Mark Schroeder, a property owner located near the site, said the presentation addressed his questions. Noise level was one concern he raised.
The public can file protests until Sept. 10 at the Ellis County Courthouse.
In other business, a representative with Buckeye Wind Energy LLC sent a statement updating the planning commissioners on their wind energy project located north of Interstate 70 between Hays and Ellis. Construction of interconnection facilities and network upgrades at the Post Rock Substation have been completed. Testing and commission is expected to conclude this fall.
