Robbery leads to police chase, minor injuries

A man and his daughter were robbed at knife-point Saturday night at a gas station near Interstate 70 in Hays.

The suspect, identified as 39-year-old William A Tyler from California, allegedly cut the driver of a Nissan pickup on the hand. Tyler fled the scene in the stolen pickup.

A Hays Police Department officer located the pickup north of Hays, and Tyler attempted to elude law enforcement. He lost control of the pickup at Toulon and I-70. He then fled on foot.

Tyler was apprehended and arrested after battling law enforcement. That altercation caused injuries to a Hays PD officer. The suspect and the officer were taken to Hays Medical Center with minor injuries.

Tyler is being held at the Ellis County Jail on multiple felony chargers.

The Ellis County Sheriff's Office and the Kansas Highway Patrol assisted with the apprehension of Tyler.

More information is expected to be released Monday.
