House Minority Leader and Democratic candidate for governor Paul Davis visited Russell County on Monday, wrapping up a weekend tour of cities in southwest and northwest Kansas — including Hays on Sunday.

The visit to Russell County was highlighted by an in-depth tour of a drilling rig, guided by Tim Scheck of Scheck Oil Operating. Scheck also is a committee chair of the Kansas Independent Oil and Gas Association.

“Oil and gas exploration and refining is a very important economic sector in Kansas,” Davis said. “The diversity of Kansas' economy is something we need to recognize and encourage if we want to grow as a state. While traveling this year, I've heard over and over that Sam Brownback’s economic experiment is damaging our state and taking us in the wrong direction.”

Davis also visited with community and business leaders at the Dole-Specter Conference Center at the Fossil Creek Hotel and Convention Center.

“Russell is a special place,” Davis said. “I look forward to partnering with leaders here to grow our economy, invest in our schools and move our state forward.”
