The Fort Hays State University and Hays City Band have begun their summer season. The band's first concert is scheduled at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Quad. Subsequent concerts will be June 17 in Ellis at Washington Grade School and June 24in WaKeeney. The season wraps up at 7:30 p.m. July 4 at Historic Old Fort Hays. Rehearsals continue Monday evenings at 7 p.m. in the band room at Malloy Hall on the campus of FHSU.

Jeff Jordan, conductor of the band, said the group is open to all ranges and abilities.

"We have players in middle school, as well as community members in their 80s with almost everything in between," he said. "This band points up the fact that music is something you can always do, while it's also a great inter-generational learning experience for everyone involved."
