The Hays Fire Department responded to a vehicle fire shortly before 6 p.m. Thursday at 1712 Copper Creek Court.

In a press release, Fire Chief Gary Brown stated "quick-thinking" residents discovered the car on fire in the attached garage and pushed it out onto the driveway.

The vehicle sustained heavy damage, and an electrical short has been determined the most probable cause.

On arrival, Hays Police reported the vehicle was well-involved in fire in the home's driveway. Off-duty firefighters and EMS personnel were called as a precaution, though no one was injured and the fire did not spread to the home.

Firefighters used a single hose to get the fire under control. Nineteen firefighters and five trucks responded.
