Academy takes top honors

Hays Academy of Hair Design won first and second place at the International Salon and Spa Expo last weekend.
In order to be entered in the competition, students needed to submit before and after photos of a model, along with a short essay explaining the style.
Paula Sargent, Ransom, was awarded first place.
"I chose a line cut for my competition entry," she said. "It curved around and down, then swooped up on the left side. It's not a style you would want with hair every day."
Emily Stults, Hays, won second place.
"This is something our staff and students care so much about," said Len Melvin, marketing director at the academy. "To receive an award to this magnitude, on this type of stage, is remarkable."
Melvin said this greatly will affect the future of the academy.
"Our students are performing at a very high level," he said. "This is really exciting for the Hays Academy family and all of the past, current and future students that will be or have been impacted."
