Hays High homecoming planned
By The Hays Daily News
This year's homecoming theme for Hays High School is "How Sweet It Is," and reunions for several classes will bring Hays High graduates to town this weekend to talk about how sweet it was during their high school days.
Friday's homecoming parade down Main Street will mark the second of three parades in Hays in as many weeks. Thomas More Prep-Marian High School's homecoming was last week, and Fort Hays State University's is set for the weekend of Oct. 4 and 5.
Friday's HHS parade will begin at 5 p.m., followed by the 7 p.m. football game against Garden City at Lewis Field Stadium. Grand marshal for the parade will be Tara O'Connor, last year's Master Teacher of the Year for Hays USD 489.
The annual bonfire is scheduled for 7:45 p.m. Thursday, and Friday's activities will include an assembly in Gym A, where alumni, staff and students will be treated to music, the announcing of this year's homecoming royalty and recognition of the 2013 HHS alumni distinguished service award winner Carol Shepherd.
Shepherd was a longtime teacher and principal in USD 489 before retiring in 2008 as principal of Roosevelt Elementary School.
