Leiker announces bid for House seat
This morning, Hays Democrat James A. Leiker announced his candidacy for the 111th Kansas House District, encompassing the cities and towns including Hays, Victoria, Munjor and Pfeifer.
“I see two major decisions that will determine what Kansas will look like for the next generation: education and water,” Leiker said. “Current funding is a threat to public education. We are at a point in time that we must decide will our next generation of citizens have the same opportunities to succeed or will we hinder their opportunities at a quality education? Water is also a huge issue. We need to find a means to sustain our sources for the progression of our communities and economy.”
Leiker, 31, is a 2008 graduate of Fort Hays State University and serves as the vice president of the Hays USD 489 Board of Education. His background includes farming, education and natural resources. Prior, he was a watershed technician for Kansas State University, Sternberg Museum of Natural History's education director, and an instructor of biology at FHSU. He and his wife, Taryn, and their two children, Reece and Channing, reside in Hays.
