Top bid for NCKTC house goes to Hays man
By The Hays Daily News
Hays resident Gary Haselhorst was the top bidder at Saturday's auction for the home built by students on the Hays campus of North Central Kansas Technical College.
The 1,860-square-foot home brought $100,000. It was the second house in approximately 30 years built by students on the Hays campus, which resurrected its carpentry/cabinetmaking program four years ago after a 25-year absence.
The energy efficient, three-bedroom home with Green energy technology was built by students in the carpentry/cabinetmaking program, and students in NCK Tech's electrical technology and plumbing, heating and air conditioning programs also participated.
Last year's Hays home brought $131,000. However, the final bid at the Beloit campus, at which students have been building homes for nearly 50 years, also was considerably lower this year.
The Beloit sale brought a record $205,000 in 2013, and this year's sale there Friday night brought $136,000.
